Frequently Asked Questions...

Blue Ridge Parkway, North Carolina

What's the maximum group size that can stay at the cabin?

The cabin sleeps up to 6 adults. You can squeeze in a youngun or two as well. If you have a larger group, please contact us first.

How many bedrooms and bathrooms?

2 of each. The loft has a king-sized bed and a sleeper-futon.

Is the cabin air conditioned?

Yes, the cabin is air conditioned. In addition there are ceiling fans in the loft, great room, and second bedroom.

Is the cabin heated?

Yes, there is a furnace and central heat. We rarely use the heat - we prefer the wood-burning stove. We will provide information on where you can buy firewood.

Are linens provided?

Fresh, clean linens are provided. The cabin is completely ready to enjoy when you arrive.

We're bringing small children. Do you have provide high chairs and baby gates (to block off the stairwells)?

Yes. You can find the high chair and baby gates in the utility room (next to the kitchen) when you arrive at the cabin.

How private is it? I don't want to rent a cabin on a busy street.

When we say private, we mean private. The loop driveway which connects to Hidden Hills drive is nearly 1/2 mile long. The cabin is located in the center of a 16.4 acre plot and is truly secluded! For further proof, click here for a picture of the cabin from the air. :-)

Exactly where is the cabin located?

About 15 minutes east of Lake Lure. We have a map available to show you the location of the cabin. Click here to see it.

Can we get supplies and groceries nearby?

Yes! There is a well-stocked convenience store/restaurant just about 3 miles up the road. A Wal-mart is about 20 minutes away, and of course you can always drive into Lake Lure or Rutherfordton for anything else you might need. It's the perfect compromise between true country living and modern conveniences.

This cabin is BEAUTIFUL!

Thanks, we get that a lot... we're glad you like it! But, what's the question? :-)

Sorry, I guess I meant, where do we sign up? How do we get started?

Easy... just fill out the reservation form. You can also just email us at info@nccabin.com or call 407-549-5717. If you email us directly please include your group size and phone number. It's that simple! We reply to all inquiries within 24 hours - often you'll hear back from us minutes or hours after you contact us. We check our email and phone messages pretty frequently. Don't worry, we'll get right back to you - we promise! (By the way, we prefer that you call between the hours of 9 AM and 9 PM Eastern time. We, and the snoozing kiddos, thank you in advance.)

How early should we make reservations?

Generally speaking, the earlier, the better. We are a simple 'first come, first served' operation. The summer months are most popular. June through October are usually fully booked. If you are interested visiting the cabin during these months we highly recommend getting in touch with us as soon as possible.

May we bring pets to the cabin?

House-trained dogs are allowed on a case-by-case basis. A $75 non-refundable pet fee is charged. Please contact us for more information.

Is this a smoke-free cabin?

Yes, it is; however, you are welcome to smoke outside. Please refrain from dropping cigarette butts in the yard; we've provided receptacles on the porch to accomodate them.

Is your kitchen fully stocked?

Just bring food! Stove, refrigerator, microwave, toaster, coffee maker, and <pop!> corkscrew are all included.

Washer? Dryer?

Yes, and yes.

How many cabins are there?

Just this one. To us, it's a cherished members of the family... please treat our baby gently! :-)

We would like to travel to North Carolina by air. How can we do this?

If you're a pilot you can check out our pilot information page which will tell you everything you need to know. If you'd like to fly in commercially, Asheville Regional is the closest commercial airport. You can arrange to have a rental car awaiting you when you arrive. It's about a 45 minute drive from the Asheville airport to the cabin. However, scheduled airline service to Asheville is not as frequent as Charlotte International, which is about one and a half hours away from the cabin. Check your favorite air carrier for schedules and prices.

We need directions to the cabin!

These are included in the Welcome Packet which is sent to you immediately after we receive your deposit.

What is there to do in Lake Lure?

Goodness, the sky's the limit. Just about anything and everything you can imagine is just a short drive away. Check out Things to Do page for more information, but the short list includes: golf, hiking, water-skiing, boating, swimming, white-water rafting, horseback riding, mountain climbing, and of course we have the world famous Chimney Rock! The list goes on, but you get the idea.

Any place good to eat nearby?

Ah, so you're a culinary afficianado, just like we are! There are a number of excellent restaurants in Lake Lure. Our favorite is Larkin's On the Lake, which surely won't disappoint. Besides that, there's everything from sub sandwiches to pizza to BBQ. You'll feast like kings! A comprehensive list of restaurants can be found at the cabin.

We want to play golf!

Then you picked the right spot. The Municipal Golf Course is located less than 10 minutes to the west on Highway 64/74. Apple Valley Golf Course, located in Fairfield Mountains, is rated among North Carolina's top 50 golf courses and features scenic views and challenging greens. Bald Mountain Golf Course has been hailed by Golf Digest as "One of the most beautiful mountain courses around." Information on nearby golf courses can be found at the cabin.

We want to fish!

Lake Lure has over 27 miles of shorelines and 1500 acres of water surface area. Anglers can catch a variety of fish ranging from Lake Trout to Largemouth Bass!

Is the pond on the property stocked with fish?

Yes it is! As of August, 2007, one guest reported catching a 2 lb. bass. Catch 'n release, please!

We want to visit Chimney Rock Park!

It's just a few minutes away. Hidden Hills is clearly visible from Chimney Rock (and vice-versa.) Besides the fantastic view, there are also nice hiking trails up there. Getting to the top is a 26-story elevator ride.

We don't want to do anything! We're coming here to relax!

We can sure relate to that one. When we get a chance to stay at the cabin we tend to stay on the property most of the time. It's a great place to forget the hustle and bustle of daily life. After you pick up some groceries the cabin has everything you need to slow down for a few days. We have a selection of books, board games, DVDs, video games, and of course wildlife and on-property hiking. We always leave feeling relaxed and refreshed. You will too.
