What's New...
Hello Friends! It was a spectacular fall in western North Carolina! The peak colors lasted from the last week of
October until mid-November. Though most of the trees surrounding the cabin were bare by mid-November, some of the properties around us and much of nearby Rutherfordton still offered breath-taking fall colors. Since the trees surrounding the cabin are now bare, we are enjoying the view of the Southern Appalachians from the serenity of the deck. Though the weather is cooler, there are still a variety of birds frequenting the feeders, including chickadees, nuthatches, morning doves and eastern blue birds. Many of our guests have mentioned sighting deer as well.
Though the infamous storm in early December hit the area hard, Cabin in Hidden Hills emerged with only a few fallen branches. We were some of the lucky few who did not lose power. Since then, the winter has been relatively mild. To experience true winter in North Carolina, we recently took a day trip to Boone, (approximately 1 hour and 15 minute drive) and did some skiing at Sugar Mountain.
Other guests have raved about trips to Mt. Mitchell and Linville Falls, just off the Blue Ridge Parkway.
Spring is just around the corner and the Dogwoods and Rhododendrons will soon be in bloom. There are a number of activities going on this spring in Lake Lure including moonlight and meteor shower cruises on Lake Lure and
guided wildflower and birding hikes at Chimney Rock Park. Also enjoy the Festival of Flowers at Biltmore Estate April 5th throughMay 4th.
Be sure to make reservations early, as spring and summer are always very popular!
We look forward to hearing from you.
