What's New... ... as of December, 2003
Amazing how time flies! It seems just yesterday that we were enjoying winter in the mountains, and now that time is upon us again.
We hope this December finds you all well and happy. Shelly and I feasted in Florida with a traditional Ferguson family Thanksgiving (which is done in very LARGE food proportions thanks to my dear mother), then managed to get up to the cabin for a few days in early December. We had a couple of inches of snowfall, but it was gone again the next day. The wood-burning stove had a good workout, as you can see in the photo, which was taken on this trip!
As usual, the trees on the property have dropped all of their leaves opening up a beautiful view of the Blue Ridge from the deck, kitchen, and great room. We were snug as bugs as we watched Pirates of the Carribean, played pool, and relaxed with our family to the backdrop of snow-covered hills, trees, and mountains.
Shelly and I have become recent ski converts, so we made the trek to Sugar Mountain for a skiing daytrip. Door-to-slopes time was one hour, ten minutes - not bad, especially considering that it was snowing along much of highway 221 as we drove north into the Banner Elk area! We plan to do more ski daytrips over the winter. Sugar Mountain has some nice ski packages, as does Hawk's Nest on Seven Devils' mountain. Contact us for details if you're interested, and we'll tell you how and where to go.
Before we left for home in Florida, we decorated the cabin for the season. December guests will find a Christmas tree, stockings, and plenty of holiday charm waiting for them when they arrive.
January and February will be charming times to enjoy the cabin along with its breathtaking views of the Gorge. We hope those of you who are planning a getaway in early 2004 will think of us.
Stay happy, stay healthy, and take care of each other!
